I just thought I share this here since I've been sharing this repeatedly recently...
This is the story of how I went from the bottom pit of my academic history to achieving my goal...
In 1998, I enter the Express stream in Saint Andrew's Secondary School. In secondary 1, i struggled through and developed the hate for mathematics because of my maths teacher. I began to fail my mathematics test, and only managed to pass during the examinations. This process carried on through till i was in secondary 3. In secondary three, it was also the entry of cybergaming, I would head for the lan shops after school with my friends. As the results of excessive gaming, I failed my final year examinations with 57points... Unbelievable huh... I had 5 F9s and 2 C6. I had 2 options... 1st is to retain in secondary 3 but there will be a change in syllabus, 2nd option was to go to the N(A) Stream. I chose the 2nd option.
By now I was already actively serving in church, so this will probably create even more parental objection. I was quite devastated. But thank God for the people around me. A leader in usher shared with me his similar experience in school as well but he didn't give up, instead he decided that he can study harder and decided that he didn't need any tuition, eventually he made it through to poly.
Inspired by him, I did the same thing, I changed my mindset and began to think that if God has created all the knowledge in this world and had allowed countless people acquire these knowledge so why can't I do the same.
And so I went on to study on my own, aiming to excel in my studies. I didn't want any tuition because I felt that tuition is just getting someone to supervise you to study.
In secondary 4, I was in the top 5 of my class; scored well enough for 'N' Levels and proceeded on to Secondary 5. I set my aim to get accepted into Business IT at Singapore Polytechnic.
Eventually I scored 17points for my 'O' level examination and got into the course that i was eyed for. This is really God's grace, because it was also during this time that did even more in church.
So to all the students, be positive, set goals and believe that God has given you the ability to excel in your studies.
